Let 'em Leap
Softball BC makes it official
If available, Craig Pidcock (pictured) and other flying pitchers need not worry about any illegal pitch calls at this year's BC Provincial tournament.
Softball BC membership narrowly passed a motion, brought forward by Del Christensen of Victoria, allowing pitchers the freedom of placing only one foot on the pitchers plate.
The rationale for this new rule was safety. "With all the high tech equipment nowadays, pitchers need the advantages of the momentum gained by allowing the "rock back" motion", said a spokesperson.
The new rule likely won't have any effect on play as umpires at most levels have been letting almost everything go in most leagues and tournaments for the past couple years.
"Providing the front foot is firmly on the pitcher's plate when the back foot passes by - then we're ok ..." said an umpire.
